Stevens Creek County Park
Lookout Trail

My second hike towards the Magnificent 7 Challenge was in Stevens Creek County Park in Cupertino photographing wildflowers. It’s a great year to see wildflowers, with all the rain we had this winter. Everything is growing like crazy. My hike took so much longer than it should have because I kept stopping to photograph the wildflowers along the way. Also, because I got lost and took a trail that added an extra hour to my plan.
I started at Madrone picnic area, which was closed to cars so I had to park around the corner and walk to the start of the trail. My mistake was going the wrong direction on the connector trail. Once I figured out my mistake and headed back to the start, I had already photographed quite a few wildflowers. The Globe Lily was my favorite. I don’t think I’ve ever seen that one before.

I continued along the trail and quickly reached the reservoir and walked along it for quite some time. The trail then headed up into the hills area and I passed along a big white X marked on the ground. It appeared to be a landing spot for a drone and the note inscribed on it said it was used for aerial flights of the reservoir. After hiking along the ridge for quite sometime, the trail returned back down towards the water and turned off to the left to make the loop portion of the hiking trail. I startled a family of geese with goslings and headed to the selfie spot and got my photo.

I quickly hiked back because it took me so long to park and find the start of the trail, and then my accidental detour, I was worried I’d get stuck in traffic on 17. It was truly an amazing hike along the reservoir and a bunch of ladies I spoke with at the parking area told me the other side of the reservoir has some great hikes as well. So, I will need to head back sometime to Stevens Creek County Park. But maybe not until I complete the Magnificent 7 Challenge, 5 hikes to go!  Click here to read about my first Magnificent 7 Challenge hike.

Stay tuned for waterfall hikes!  We’ve had so much rain this year, I’m anxious to head out to see if the waterfalls are flowing this year.  Does anyone know any good waterfall hikes?  And is anyone else trying out the Magnificent 7 hikes?
